A cruel, but kind of realistic joke.

Album anatomy

album-anatomy-7

Album Anatomy is Duane Dalton’s side project, an exploration into minimalist graphic design. The designer did a great job of removing unnecessary information, he even went a bit too far on occasion.

The idea of these posters was inspired by the great “Bridging the gap” poster series. A strict grid is used to create the posters, a constraint that probably helps a lot in keeping the whole series coherent. The font used in the visuals is Helvetica, an obvious choice for grid-based minimalist designs. Dalton alredy created over 70 designs.

Unfortunately, the visuals cannot be acquired for copyright issues with the band names.

Scrap metal sculptures made of old farm equipment

welded-scrap-metal-animal-sculptures-john-lopez-1

What would you do if you have scrap metals? Most probably nothing and simply dump it out. But John Lopez has a lot of things to do with it. He is an artist who resides in South Dakota and creates amazing sculptures from scrap metals. His art-form is precisely visible in several pieces of old farm machinery and equipment, musical instruments, chains, life-sized buffaloes, horses and many other old metal objects.

John Lopez says, “My favorite part about these pieces is the texture. I just start grabbin’ stuff from the pile and welding it, and if you weld enough of the same thing on over and over it creates this really cool texture that I’ve never seen in these kinds of pieces before. And I think that’s what draws people in.”

The journey of this creative persona started when his aunt passed away and a family cemetery was needed to be built. His uncle Geno completed a fence around the cemetery and opened his home and welding shop to John. But there was scarcity of materials and hence John went in search of scrap metals and finished a gate into the cemetery and made a small angel peering over the top of the gate. This turned to be a new career path for him as he got several appreciations for this job.

In the successful career of bronze sculpting, John has always discovered a new and exciting direction of scrap iron sculpting. “I am never bored! I look forward to each new creation, and it is helping me grow and develop as an artist,” he adds.

Here are some of his great works which are worth appreciating.

Books recycled to pot indoor plants

recycled-diy-planters

We have been reading books from our childhood and till now we have collection of them. It’s almost of no use for us now but Gardenkultur teaches us a very creative way of utilizing our old books.

The old books can actually be recycled as potted plants. All you need is a hard-cover book or novel and put seeds of your desired plant into scooped-out sections of your old hardback books. This is a really a superb technique of decorating your room with such an exceptional and unique pot. Who could have thought that a plant can be grown in a book? We have only seen the images of plants from small to giant trees in the books but now you can actually grow them in your book.

Get visualized to the grown plants in the book pots in the given pictures. I am sure you would definitely give it a try after watching these pictures.
